Face painting: how to apply and how to use makeup correctly for the carnival

We all love to reincarnate and sometimes dress up in carnival costumes. We try on different looks at New Year’s holidays, costume parties or just at a party. Thinking over all the details of a carnival costume sometimes takes a lot of time. But sometimes even small details can give a zest to an image.

Just about this very zest will be discussed. Today we will talk with you about how to make your child’s festive look even more expressive.

In addition to making a carnival costume, there is another interesting activity – applying face painting to your child’s face. In addition, this fascinating undertaking is also great to cheer you up.

We will tell you how to make face painting on children’s faces during the holiday and share practical tips for applying it.

Why do you need face painting?

Today, most children’s parties, city events and parties are not complete without face painting, so let’s take a closer look at it.

Children’s body art is another name for face painting. It becomes more and more popular every year. Even if the holiday is not fancy-dress, children and adults are drawn animal faces, masks of their favorite characters, different thematic details.

Face painting paints are hypoallergenic and absolutely safe for people. They are water-based. They are applied quite simply, they lie flat on the skin, do not dry it out and are washed off without the use of aggressive chemicals, only warm water and a little soap are needed. Therefore, for children’s parties, they have become an indispensable attribute, because our kids love to decorate themselves so much.

The great advantage of this paint is that it dries almost instantly, stays on the face for a long time and does not flow. Given that face painting needs to be applied to small fidgets, this is an important factor.

Where is the chemistry in the composition?

You can choose face painting in aerosol form, pressed in special palettes as cosmetic eyeshadow or liquid.

If you see gouache, watercolor or acrylic in the face painting, then refuse to apply this paint. It is definitely not intended for painting on the face and body, as it can close the pores on coffee and thus cause redness, itching or allergies.

The safest composition includes the following elements: petroleum jelly, calcium carbonate, glycerin, paraffin, wax, stearyl alcohol and a variety of food colors.

Even such an ideal hypoallergenic composition can be dangerous for some, so before applying paint on the face, draw a line on some area of  the skin and leave it for 15 minutes. If there is no reaction, then you can safely apply paint.

Pharmacy or face painting?

Application of paints brings aesthetic pleasure. Our kids immediately become such cute animals and look even happier.

For an adult, there is another indisputable plus of using face painting. It carries a kind of psychological relief. We mean that it has a beneficial effect on your psychological state and helps to relieve physical and emotional stress. After all, when you get used to the image of a fairy-tale character, animal or super hero, you are distracted and forget about problems and daily worries.

Therefore, if your nerves are at the limit, instead of going to the pharmacy for sedatives, go better to a creative store and buy face paint paints.

It takes at least two people to do this.

Face painting is a leisure activity for at least two people. It’s boring to paint on your face alone, but to do it with a child is much more fun.

Therefore, if a children’s holiday awaits you in the near future, and you want to surprise everyone, practice applying face painting. Although working with children is more fun, it is also more difficult at the same time, since babies cannot sit still for a long time.

Everyone needs helpful advice

Before you start working with paints, check out a few guidelines that we have prepared for you.

If the child does not have a desire to apply makeup on his face, then there is no need to force him. Talk to your child, maybe he doesn’t like the touch of brushes on his face or he just doesn’t have the mood to do it right now; To understand in advance how the child will react to drawing on the face and body, move a dry brush over the places where the paint will be. It happens that on some parts of the face and body, children are tickled or uncomfortable with paint and you need to know about this in advance; Another important recommendation. Show your child before drawing. Since the drawing is not for you, but for him, it is important to take his opinion into account. What if your baby wants to be not a butterfly, but a tiger? Discuss everything with your little model; It is very difficult for little fidgets to sit still for a long time, so set yourself a time limit. You need to draw everything in 10 minutes. If you notice that the child becomes uncomfortable to sit, then let him walk a little, jump or just breathe deeply. For some reason, some babies are afraid to breathe often while drawing on their face; When drawing a picture, the child must also observe the process, so give him a mirror, where he can freely look. It will also captivate him, and you will be able to paint a little longer; While drawing, talk to the baby in parallel, you can sing, tell something interesting, then he will relax more.

Here, perhaps, are all the recommendations that you should listen to before applying face painting to a child’s face.

When can you draw already?

That’s the whole set of materials for working with paints.

It all starts with the basics

Before you start working with face painting, remove all hair from your model’s face so that it does not get in the way.

Now take a wide brush and apply white paint to the area of  your face between your upper lip and nose. See how this is done in the next photo.

Then, using a thin brush, paint the tip of the nose with black paint. Then draw a strip from the nose to the middle of the upper lip. Trace the white outlines in black. You have the cheeks. You can add antennae and dots. Apply white paint to the level of the bridge of the nose. Use a sponge to blend it so the borders are not as sharp.

We have mastered the application of a base base from which you can make other animals by adding their characteristic features.

Face painting

Are cats blue?

From this base, we can easily make a kitten’s face. We have chosen blue, but you can choose another one – it doesn’t matter.

Use a sponge to apply blue paint along the contour of the face. On the edges, you can paint a kind of wool with blue paint with a brush. Do not touch the area around the eyes. Use this paint to paint the edges of the cat ears above the eyebrows. Draw a red tongue on the lower lip. Sketch the area above the eyebrows with white (preferably with a sponge).

Now, with the help of black, draw the antennae and add the outlines of the ears.

When applying this picture, we did not touch the eye area on purpose. Since the skin in these areas is very sensitive and not everyone can paint here.

Your cute kitten is ready. As you can see, drawing is very exciting; it is not at all difficult to guess from such a distinctive line what the next animal will be. Hint: This cute animal loves carrots very much. This cute animal will be pink. It needs to be completely applied to the face, leaving only the cheeks. Draw them in white. It is more convenient to shade the paint with a sponge or sponge, then the color will lay down more evenly. Grab your cheeks slightly pink so that there is no sharp transition between white and pink. Do the same in the area above the bridge of the nose.

With white paint, paint a rounded rectangle on the lips and grabbing the area below. Now paint with black paint the outlines of the two teeth. Paint a few thin strokes on the nose, between the eyebrows, and around the outer corners of the eyes.

Our cute pink bunny is ready. By the same principle and thinking out different details, you can draw other animals. For example, a mouse will have a gray face, rounded ears, small teeth and a tongue. The squirrel will be orange or brown in color, the ears are triangular with tassels at the tips, you can also draw a small tongue.

Better not to meet him in the jungle

Let’s see what you can do with a different basic framework. It was possible to work with the previous example, but let’s add a little variety.

Now we will apply face painting of a dangerous and large tiger. Although no – our tiger cub will be completely harmless, and very even sweet and kind.

Here, the base will be white paint, which we will apply to the area around the eyes with a capture of the eyebrows and the area under the nose and above the upper lip. Paint the rest with orange.

Paint the tip of the nose with black paint, circle it at the bottom and grab the wings of the nose completely. See how it was done in the photo.

Circle the eyes below and above, they will look more like a cat. Draw black dots on the cheeks. Also paint the lower lip with black paint. Draw tiger stripes all over the face (as in the photo).

Additionally, you can depict protruding fangs from the corners of the lips. But this is at your discretion. We have got a kind little tiger cub, which has not yet grown fangs.

We gave you recommendations and showed you several master classes on working with face painting. Practice applying paint more often and you will get better every time. Next time have your child draw something on your face.

Enjoy this fun activity and paint more often.
